last house 03:37
I don’t want to hold the door for you the way you held the door for me so many years ago before we had our history I don’t want to hold the door for you the way you held the door for me I wouldn’t elbow through but I can’t bear to let you leave the last house on the left the last place we have left the piano that you made me keep please pass it to the boys for me I would hold the door for you again the way I did so many years ago your hands were full it was the least that I could do I would hold the door for you again the way I did so many years ago your hands are still so full and I will grow into the last house on the left the space that I have left I’ll keep the piano tuned for you the boys will play and their kids too I will have to hold the door for both of you if things go as we want them to so strange a thing to want but this is where we are the last house on the left the house you will have left the piano that you saved for me my fingers curved my good technique

8.
I think you’ll be the one to cut out my offending eye but I can’t tell you b/c I can’t see you with out it and if you find this where I’ll leave this for you on the line please change your name back to something I can recognize even stars die I need a story about this story even stars die I made a story of this story there is a room inside a room inside the room where you go and there’s a flag that you wave there just to see who sees I know your colors I know your call sign b/c we’re on the same side please know I’m sorry for all the fire you took from me even stars die like in the movies listen to me even stars die like in our movie you listen to me this is a letter on a table in the hall near your door you hear my cadence as you read it and that crack in my voice you knock the walls down in the room inside the room where you went and burn your flag down and use your given name even stars die we made a line out of this story even stars die you are a line out of a story

about

A genre-defying collaboration that brings composer/performer Andrea Mazzariello’s evocative songs, driven by electronic beatscapes and Fender Rhodes vamps, together with founding member of Sō Percussion Jason Treuting’s virtuosic drum set playing.

Andrea Mazzariello wrote these songs over the course of many years, releasing them in demo form and delivering them as a frenetic one-person-band in venues like The Knitting Factory, Cakeshop, Galapagos, the Queens New Music Festival, and the Wassaic Festival. In the summer of 2019 the music’s character transformed, when Mazzariello replaced his idiosyncratic collection of synthesizers, electronics, and a stripped-down drum set with a vintage electric piano and an analog drum synth. His friend and collaborator Jason Treuting, frequent collaborator with The National and Justin Vernon, offered his elastic, dynamic drum set playing, and then the two locked down. They emerged with make a wish then build a ladder, their first album as am-jt, a beat-driven, emotionally intense collage of vintage sounds, virtuosic drumming, and arresting language.
